Thank you for visiting my website.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over twenty years of clinical experience. I am currently a Senior Staff Psychologist at the University of California, Irvine, where I work with undergraduate and graduate students, supervise and train psychology interns, and provide consultations to staff and faculty. In my private practice, my areas of focus include counseling students and working professionals. In working with such clients, I help to address the unique stressors associated with challenging academic or professional careers. In addition, I have been trained as a generalist and work with a wide variety of other presenting issues.
My therapeutic style in working with clients is active and collaborative. I see my role as a facilitator of growth and change, and I assist in helping clients gain insight and clarity to enhance their overall well being. I believe therapy should be a safe space where clients can feel fully validated and accepted for who they are, including their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I also provide insight-oriented exploration, help identify patterns in relationships informed by early relationships, increase awareness about negative thinking, and help determine barriers to a more fulfilling life. I strive to identify my clients’ innate strengths, and to apply these strengths in finding solutions for areas of concern.
I work primarily with adults, and I have expertise in working with issues including:
Prior to my training in psychology, I was also trained in the field of clinical social work. This combined background has given me a greater awareness of the challenges of communities and individuals, as well as an admiration and appreciation of human resilience and altruism.
I hope that I can be of help to you or your loved one.
Warm Regards,
Diana Chan, M.S.W., Psy.D.
